Becca Fox Author Origin Story
In the year 2004, a little girl sat down at a desk with a composition notebook and a pencil. She's been writing ever since.
Making up stories had always been fun but Becca didn't become serious about her writing until her older sister shared a fanfic she was working on. At the time, Becca was ten years old and desperate for any way to connect with the older sibling she'd always looked up to, the Jr. Higher who was suddenly to cool to hang out with her little sister. Something incredible happened when the two of them sat down to read to one another. They had common ground again. The more time the two of them spent sharing their stories and giving each other feedback, the more Becca fell in love with the creative process itself. Even after her older sister discovered her true passion was editing and creative brainstorming instead of the act of writing, Becca continued working on her manuscripts.
When she was eighteen years old, Becca was introduced to an editor through a beginner's writing course at a community center. This editor was the first professional Becca had ever shared her writing with and the first person within the publishing industry to tell her that she had a chance. From then on, Becca fiercely pursued publication. She created author social media profiles, queried agents and small publishers alike, participated in events like Twitter's Pitch Madness and joined reader/writer groups like Inkitt in an attempt to spread the word about her manuscripts. All the while, she read as many articles and took as many classes as she could in order to perfect her craft. Six years later, she was offered her first contract.
Since then, Becca has worked with three different small presses and has self-published two books--one of which she co-wrote with her beloved sister! It's been a wild and difficult ride; she still doesn't feel like she has a handle on this crazy profession they call being an author. But, as long as the stories keep coming, Becca will keep writing.
